This is my video costume. It took about an hour to get it on. Addy from Hamilton Sundstrand pointed out the safety issues with my helmet, so he and I cut breathing holes and I made the clear bubble removable with velcro. That made a big difference!
Sam and I got a lot of good footage for the video before he left on a traverse with the HumVee crew.
Sam Burbank (arm and leg), Steve Braham, Bill Clancy, Pascal, Bill Fox and Charles Cockell gear up for a two day HumVee
traverse. Kimik is about to be tied up momentarily so that he doesn't chase the HumVee for two days.
Ivan and Hernan from Discovery Canada have just interviewed me while I was still wearing my spacey video costume. Hernan
and I are the only two vegetarians here, and he is leaving Friday evening. No, don't leave!
Sending good vibes to the HumVee crew!
Zan has a mouthful of Steve Braham.
The HumVee is ready to go! Sam Burbank will be riding along side them on an ATV.
Jeff Jones is the test subject in this Hamilton Sundstrand upper torso. They are testing a preliminary design for a Mars suit, particularly the communications setup that is designed with the traversing geologist in mind.
We rushed out here on ATV's to bring them a couple of radios when their batteries ran down. Brian Glass (right) is assisting Hamilton Sundstrand with their testing.
Stan (left) and Addy (right) make some adjustments.
It's time to go back to base camp.
I rode with Alain Berinstain on the way to bring radios to Hamilton Sunstrand, and Alain drove his two-seater 6 wheeler VERY fast over the rocky terrain. Unfortunately, he takes it slowly on the way back. I want to do that again!
It's bumpier than it looks. This valley is still outside of the crater. I hope to traverse into the crater sometime on Friday.
Looking back on Hernan, Ivan and Mel who are following us back to base camp.
Excuse the blurriness, but I'm bouncing in my seat.
Yehaw! This is one of the few places near base camp where we don't have to stick to the "roads". It's so rocky here, our paths won't be seen from aircraft observers.
